Affiliate Programs :: Step-by-Step :: Building Affiliate Websites Affiliate MarketingBuilding Affiliate WebsitesBefore we get started with building an affiliate website, perhaps we should first see some examples of affiliate websites. As you read through this page feel free to visit one or more of the following websites, doing so will help clarify the relevant topic. » Site Examples:
» Page Outline:
Step 1 : Organize Site StructureI find it's helpful to first start with the website's main menu. When you researched your keyword list you probably started to develop an idea for what products or services people are searching. Using this same keyword list pull out the most popular products or services, these can be the start of your main menu. In addition, you'll want a Home page and Article page. The Home page (or Main Page) introduces your website and the products or services you're promoting. The Article page is used to list any articles you write about the product or service you're promoting. As an example, here's a start on a menu structure for the topic of womens shoes:
» Goal: Create a preliminary website main menu. Step 2: Purchase Domain NameThe choice of a domain name is very important. Give it a lot of though and get ready to put some time into searching for it. You really want to find just the right one. If you pick one you're unhappy with you'll find it's really hard to switch to a new domain, especially after you've invested so much time promoting it. You'll also want to find a domain name with a .com extension. If anyone visits your website then wants to return later they'll assume a .com extension. Some Affiliates also like to use keyword rich domain names. Keyword rich domain names mean your domain includes some of your better keywords. For example if you picked the topic of 'womens shoes' and you found a good keyword for this topic is 'womens shoes' you may want to see if the domain name womens-shoes.com or womensshoes.com is available. Failing that maybe another good keyword is 'womens dress shoes' try the domain name womens-dress-shoes.com or womensdressshoes.com. Keep trying until you find just the right domain name! » Resources: » Goal: Find and purchase a great domain name! Step 3 : Write ContentBy organizing your site in Step 1 you've developed a structure from which to work as you write the website content. I like to start first by researching each of the products or services I'm promoting. I don't write a single word of content until I've researched each item. This way when I go to write my content I can make the look and feel of each page very similar. When I'm done researching I start by writing the product pages first, ie. the Dress Shoes, Prom Shoes, or Wedding Shoes from the example in step 1. Afterwards I write the main page and any supporting articles I need to link to from the product pages. » Resources: » Goal: Write content for each of the product pages, the main page, and any supporting articles. Step 4 : Build SiteAt this point it's time to actually build and code the website. Don't know HTML? That's okay!
